I think the best tiebreaker would be a single sled pull race where you have to pull a guy from the opposition. Each team picks the OTHER team’s skater for the race, as well as who FROM THEIR OWN TEAM the skater has to drag down the ice. I hope to one day live in a world where I can watch Scooter attempting to tow Chewy down the ice after 3 periods of snow have accumulated.

Agreed, 1/3 of a team’s record shouldn’t come down to tie games. That sucks and reduces heckling stamina. 3 on 3 for 5 minutes would be fun though not sure the rink would agree the additional ice time would be available.
What other ideas outside of the unpopular shootout are realistic?
i think ties are fine for regular season, but playoffs should start 4 on 4 for 5 min and then go 3 on 3 for another 5 before shootout. And if the refs bitch about it, the hecklers will put an end to that.
